How can someone become a Muslim?
An yon e who believes in One Go d and does not conside r any other deity worthy of worship besides Him, all he or she has to do is to affirm the belief in the last Prophet of God Muhammad, peace be upon him through saying
La llaha lllallahu muhmmad-ur-RasooIalIah

'There is no deity (god) except Allah (the
One and Only True God) and Muhammad
is the Messenger of Allah,' and then
follow the Qu ran and traditions of
the Prophet Muhammad , peace be
upon him. This is called the Shahadah
(bearing witness to the Truth).
What is Prophethood in Islam?
The Merciful an d Loving God not
only crea ted human bein gs, but also
arranged for their gu idance through
appointing Prophets through out
the ages from amo ng the human
beings. God revealed His will to the
Prophets, peace be upon them all, and
commissioned them to deliv er that
Message. In every known n ation one
or more Prophets we re appointed. All
th e prophets of Go d were men of good
chara cter and high honor. The ir honesty
and truthfulness, th eir intelligence and
integrity we re beyond doubt.
The appointment of these Prophets
from God is a clear manifestation of a
strong link between Heaven an d Earth, between God and man. Th e purpose
of Prophethood is to confirm what
mankind already kn ows or can kn ow,
and to teach th em what th ey do not
or cannot kn ow by thei r own me ans.
Su ch as: why we ar e created? Wh at w ill
happen to us after death? Is there any
life after death? Are we accountable for
our actions? Similarly qu estions abou t
God, Angels, paradise, and hell cannot
be ans we red withou t revel ations from
the Creator and Knower of the unseen .
It is also to help man to find th e Right
Path, and to do what is righ t an d sh un
what is wrong. Prophethood is an
eloquen t expression of God's love for
human bein gs and His will to gu ide
them to the right way of belief and
behavior. He p rovides true gu idance
to ma nkind, and then h old s them
responsible for their deed s. He gave
them warnings through His prophets
abou t the conseque nces of th eir
wrong fu l de eds, and the goo d news of
rewards for their goo d deeds.
The Source of Prophethood and the
appointment of all the p rophets is One
and th e Same : it is the One and Only
Go d (Allah) . The Prophet's aim is to
serve God, to acq uaint human bein gs
with God and His Divine teachings, to
establish truth and goodness, to help
man kind realize the true purp ose of
their existence and to help them in
living their lives in a purposeful way.
It is on this basis that th e Mu slims
make no distinction amo ng an y of th e
Prophets and accep t their tea chings as
consistent and comp lementary to each
othe r.
